Have you stood in stillness long enough to feel the earth exhale?

Shaw Mountain, known to the locals as "Lucky Peak", nicknamed after early settlers found gold and other ores there, is a favorite refuge just outside Boise, Idaho. I’ve walked these hills before. But that night, beneath a crisp early fall sky, it felt completely new.

I had chased whispers of aurora all day, not daring to hope too much. But as darkness fell and the wind picked up, the sky stirred. First a blush of green, then soft rose, then a curtain of violet unfurling like a prayer across the canyon. I stood still, just me, the ridge-line, and the wind.

Photographing Northern Lights is always part science, part surrender. The light changes with every breath of the sky, and exposure must balance stillness with awe. But here, above the dam at Lucky Peak, the land bowed low and the heavens danced.

My hope is that this image brings you into that same reverence, where the familiar is made holy under the weight of light.
