The Story Behind The Photo
What if beauty was found not in silence, but in movement?
They call it Union Station, but to Denver it’s much more, “Travel by Train,” “The Crown Jewel of LoDo,” “The Gateway to the Rockies.” Its bones are Beaux-Arts, its heart is historic, and its soul pulses with people going places. I stood beneath the swooping white canopy of the station’s modern expansion, the contrast between old stone and futuristic design creating a tension I wanted to capture.
A spring breeze cooled the platform as trains rumbled in the distance and voices echoed off steel and glass. Overhead, clouds painted themselves across the last streaks of golden daylight. I framed the shot, a window of quiet in a city constantly in motion. But long exposure photography is never simple in places like this. People move. Lights flicker. The world resists stillness.
I waited. I prayed for a breath of calm, a divine pause. And when it came, the shutter snapped. The glow of the historic façade lit up like a beacon, framed in curves of white and dusk. It felt like holding hands with Denver’s past and future all at once.
