The Moment I Finally Found Lady in the Wind, and the Lesson God Taught Me About Seeing
Share
The first time I visited Antelope Canyon, I was bursting with excitement. I had dreamed for years about seeing Lady in the Wind. That natural sandstone sculpture that is so gracefully formed that it seems to whisper God’s artistry through stone and light. I had read about it, seen photos, and imagined that moment when I would finally see her with my own eyes.
But when I returned to my hotel that night and began scrolling through my photos, my heart sank. Somehow, I had missed her. The one formation I’d come all that way to see. She wasn’t there. I frantically rechecked every image, hoping I’d captured her by accident, but she was nowhere to be found. That moment of disappointment stayed with me for a long time.
Two years later, I returned to Antelope Canyon with one promise to myself: I will not miss her this time. As our group began the tour, I pulled the guide aside and told him the story of my first visit. He smiled warmly and promised to make sure I wouldn’t leave without finding her. Looking back, I know that conversation was not by chance. I truly believe I was paired with that guide through divine intervention.
When we reached the spot, he stopped and said, “Now, turn around.” There she was. Lady in the Wind stood behind us the entire time, visible only when we stopped and looked back. I felt an unexpected wave of emotion, joy, peace, and a quiet understanding. The reason I had missed her before was simple: I hadn’t turned around.
The guide, full of grace and good humor, stopped the tour and let me linger for nearly ten minutes. He told me stories, suggested angles, and shared in my excitement. It was a divine, joy-filled experience and one I will never forget. That photograph has since become one of my best sellers, but beyond that, it reminds me daily of a spiritual truth: sometimes what we’re looking for is right behind us, and God asks us to pause, turn, and see.
That is why I chose this image for the cover of my first prayer journal, paired with Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Just like that moment in the canyon, journaling gives us a chance to stop, turn our hearts toward God, and see what we might have missed in the hurry of life.
My hope is that as you open this journal, or even your own, you’ll find space to slow down, listen, and rediscover God’s beauty woven into your story. The Lady in the Wind Prayer Journal was created from that same desire: to give you a gentle place to meet Him through reflection and gratitude. Whether you write within these pages or another you already love, may your time with God renew your strength and remind you that His presence is always closer than you think.

P.S. I would love to hear how God meets you in your own journaling practice. If you feel led, share a moment, a verse, or a lesson from your journal in the comments. I pray your story encourages someone else who is seeking His presence too.
